> Record a salary payment to an employee, and see what it does to your accounts and your profit.

*Section: HR and payroll · Updated: 2026-10-19 · Needs the plan feature: hrm*

By the end you will have recorded a salary payment to an employee, and you will know what it does to your accounts and your profit.

> **Note:** Payroll comes with HR, which some plans include. See [Employees](/app/help/employees).

## Pay an employee

Each payroll is one payment to one employee, for the amount you type.

1. **Open [HRM › Payroll](/app/hrm/payrolls)** and **click Create.**
2. **Check the Date** and **pick the Employee.**
3. **Type the Amount.** ArmPOS doesn't work it out from the salary on the employee's profile.
4. **Pick the Payment choice,** such as **Cash** or **bank transfer**.
5. **Pick the Account it is paid from,** if you keep accounts: the amount is taken off that account's balance.
6. **Add the Receiver Account Number and the Payment Reference Number** for a bank payment, and attach a payslip or receipt under **Upload Documents** if you like.
7. **Click Submit.**

*Pick an Account to take the salary off that account's balance.*

*Every payroll is saved as paid. Edit or delete it from its row.*

Editing or deleting a payroll puts its amount back on the account.

## Payroll and your figures

A payroll isn't an expense: **Reports › Profit and Loss** and **Reports › Expense Report** don't count it. To see salaries in your profit, record each month's salaries as an expense in a **Salaries** category too: see [Record an expense](/app/help/record-an-expense). Choose an account on only one of the two, or the money leaves the account twice.
