How do I choose the best POS system for a small shop in South Africa?

Can I run a spaza shop from my phone?

A spaza's fast sellers usually fit inside the free Starter plan, which allows 1 branch, 2 users and up to 50 products, and you won't be asked for card details to register.
What happens to my sales during load shedding?
They carry on, provided ArmPOS is already open and the device has charge. Every sale made during the outage waits on the phone, tablet or laptop, then uploads by itself once the Wi-Fi or data returns, so there is no paper record to key in afterwards. Set up each new till while the power is on, because the first open needs the internet.
Can a butchery sell by weight with scale labels?
Yes. Your scale prints a barcode label that carries the weight; scan it at the till and ArmPOS adds that cut at the weight on the label. Biltong, boerewors, mince and chops sold by the kilogram all go through the same way, with no weights typed in by hand.
Can head office in Johannesburg see what every branch sold today?
Yes. The dashboard and about 60 reports break sales, stock and profit down by branch, and the accounting module keeps the books behind them. Staff roles and permissions decide what each person can open, so only the accounts you choose see every branch.
Does ArmPOS sync with Shopify or WooCommerce?
Yes. If you also sell online, ArmPOS keeps products, stock and orders in step with your Shopify or WooCommerce store, so the website and the shop floor work from one stock count. Sales can also go across to QuickBooks as invoices for your bookkeeper.
Can I take returns and exchanges at the till?
Yes. Find the original sale, return the items the customer brought back, and they go back into stock, with the refund recorded by the method you paid it out with. An exchange is a return followed by a new sale, so the count stays correct either way.
Do I pay for ArmPOS in rand or in dollars?
In US dollars, charged to your card. The rand prices beside each paid plan are there so you can weigh it against what you spend today, and they are refreshed at the day's exchange rate, which is why they shift a little from week to week.
