From the Dar es Salaam sack to the Bujumbura kilo

Point of Sale & Inventory Management Software in Burundi

Goods reach Bujumbura from Dar es Salaam by the sack, carton and jerrycan, then leave your shop by the kilo, litre and piece. With ArmPOS point of sale software and inventory management, both counts stay right in Burundian francs, on the shop's own phone.

Why ArmPOS

One system for sales, inventory and every branch

Most small businesses juggle a till, a stock book and a spreadsheet. ArmPOS brings your point of sale, inventory management, purchasing and accounting into one system, so every sale updates your stock and your numbers at once.

Every branch, one view

See stock in every shop and warehouse from one account, down to the rack. Move items between branches with approved transfers, and every movement is recorded.

Know before you run out

Set an alert quantity for each product. When stock falls to it, ArmPOS flags it in the notification bell and on the dashboard, branch by branch, so you reorder before a customer leaves empty-handed.

Speaks your team's language

Use ArmPOS in 24 languages, including English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Hindi and Chinese, with right-to-left screens for Arabic.

Profit you can see

Sales, profit and stock value update with every sale. Open the dashboard on any device and know how today is going, branch by branch.

Sell online too

Open your own online shop with the same products and stock. Online orders become sales in ArmPOS, so you never sell what you no longer have.

How ArmPOS works

From sign-up to daily profit

Create your free account and set up your shop in minutes. Import products, customers and suppliers from Excel, and give each person on your team their own login.

Scan the packet, type in three kilos of sugar or two litres of oil, take cash, card or a transfer, and print the receipt.

Every sale, purchase, return and transfer updates your inventory. See what your stock is worth and what is running low in each branch.

Sales, profit, inventory and staff reports for any branch and any dates, ready to print or export to PDF and Excel.

From the port of Dar es Salaam to a Bujumbura shelf

Nearly everything a Burundian shop imports lands at Dar es Salaam and crosses Tanzania by truck. ArmPOS follows each sack and carton from the truck to your depot and on to the customer, with its price in francs at every step.

  • Notes, card or transfer, each totalled

Cash, a card or a bank transfer: the cashier marks one as each sale closes, and Settings holds any extra method you need. Nothing connects ArmPOS to the bank's card machine, so each sale simply carries the method your cashier picked. Each evening the payments report gives a total per method and per bank account.

  • Burundian francs on every line

Shelf prices, receipts, stock value and profit are all kept in Burundian francs (BIF), the FBu on your price tags. Open the pricing section and every paid plan carries a figure in francs too, at the exchange rate of the day.

  • Sugar by the kilo, palm oil by the litre

In Kamenge, a grocery buys sugar in 50 kg sacks and sells it by the kilo. In Rumonge, on the shore of Lake Tanganyika, a palm oil trader fills one-litre bottles from 20-litre jerrycans. Near the port of Bujumbura, a hardware store sells cement by the bag and nails by the kilo.

  • Gitega, Ngozi and Rumonge on one account

Gitega or Ngozi can each get a branch on the Bujumbura account, with staff, a till and shelves of its own. Stock leaves the Bujumbura depot on a transfer, and neither count changes until a manager accepts it.

Point of sale features

Everything you need at the counter: a fast POS screen on any device, flexible payments, and receipts your customers can keep.

  • Fast checkout

Search or scan products, apply discounts and promo codes, and complete a sale in seconds on a computer, tablet or phone.

  • Barcode scanning

Scan with a USB scanner, a phone or tablet camera, or weighing-scale labels that carry the weight in the barcode.

  • Split payments

Take cash, card and other methods in one sale, and record exactly how each customer paid.

  • Receipts and invoices

Print receipts on 58mm or 80mm thermal paper or A4, or send them by email or SMS. Turn quotations into sales and PDF invoices.

  • Held sales and returns

Park a sale and finish it later, and take returns at the till that put items straight back into stock.

  • Cash register

Open and close the register, record cash in and out, and see what the drawer should hold at the end of each shift.

  • Customers and loyalty

Keep customer records and balances, and reward repeat buyers with loyalty points they spend at the till.

  • Keeps selling offline

If the internet drops while you sell, ArmPOS keeps recording sales on the device and syncs them when you're back online.

Inventory management features

Know what you have, where it is and what it's worth, in every shop and warehouse. Your stock updates itself as you sell, buy, return and transfer.

  • Multi-branch inventory

Track stock in every shop and warehouse, down to the rack, from one account.

  • Stock transfers

Move stock between branches with transfers that need approval, so every item is accounted for.

  • Low stock alerts

Set an alert quantity per product, and the bell, the dashboard and the quantity alerts report show what to reorder in each branch.

  • Purchases and suppliers

Raise purchase orders, receive stock into the right warehouse and track what you owe each supplier.

  • Batches and expiry dates

Track batches with expiry dates and sell the earliest-expiring stock first, for pharmacies and food businesses.

  • Serial and IMEI numbers

Record serial or IMEI numbers for phones and electronics, and trace every unit from purchase to sale.

  • Variants and units

Sell in sizes and colours, by the pack or by the piece, with unit conversions handled for you.

  • Counts and adjustments

Download a count sheet by warehouse and category, then record adjustments and damages so your records match the shelf.

Run the whole business

Beyond the till: your online shop, your accounts, your team and the tools you already use, in the same system as your sales and stock.

  • Your online shop

Your own web shop with collections and banners. Customers pay by card or cash on delivery, and orders come from the same stock.

  • Accounting and profit

Expenses, cash and bank accounts, profit and loss, and a full accounting module with journals, a trial balance and a balance sheet.

  • About 60 reports

Sales, payments, tax, customers, suppliers, staff and inventory reports, including stock value, ageing and expiry, to print or export.

  • Staff and permissions

Give each person their own login and decide what they can see and do. Keep shifts, leave and attendance records too.

  • Integrations

Sync products, stock and orders with WooCommerce and Shopify, and send your sales to QuickBooks as invoices.

  • Messages and campaigns

Send invoices and marketing campaigns by email, SMS and WhatsApp to bring customers back.

  • Hardware that fits

Works with USB barcode scanners, 58mm and 80mm receipt printers, label printers, a customer display and cash drawers through QZ Tray, or simply the phone you already have.

  • Kitchen display

Send orders from the till straight to a kitchen screen, so cafés and takeaways prepare them in order without paper tickets.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best POS system for a shop in Bujumbura?
Choose one that links the till to the depot, so every sale takes stock out and every purchase puts it back. ArmPOS does both in Burundian francs on the phone or computer you already own, and the phone's camera reads the barcodes.
My suppliers in Dar es Salaam invoice in dollars. Can I keep the shop in Burundian francs?
Yes, and an account opened in Burundi starts in Burundian francs. Enter each purchase at its cost in francs, at the rate you actually paid for the dollars, and the margin on screen stays true. The till never mixes two currencies, though Settings lets you switch the shop to dollars if you prefer.
I buy Rumonge palm oil in 20-litre jerrycans and sell it by the litre. Can ArmPOS keep both?
Yes. Tell ArmPOS once that a jerrycan holds 20 litres, and it converts at every sale. After ten jerrycans arrive, each litre sold comes off the stock, which reads in jerrycans or in litres as you choose.
How do I count the depot without closing the shop?
Count one category at a time: cement one day, small hardware the next, each on its own downloaded count sheet. Type in what you find on each shelf, and the stock figure moves to match it. Torn or wet sacks go out separately as damages, so they never look like goods gone missing.
A customer pays part in notes and the rest by transfer. Is that one sale?
Yes. Enter both amounts on the same sale, each with its method, and the receipt shows the two. That evening the payments report files the notes under cash and the transfer under transfers, which makes checking the bank statement quicker.
Should my seller in Ngozi see the Bujumbura figures?
Your Ngozi seller sees what their role shows and nothing else. Logins are personal, and the role attached to each one is yours to set. In that branch they can sell without seeing purchase prices or margins, and the role can also stop them changing a price at the till.
A builder asks for a quote for cement and reinforcing bars. Can ArmPOS produce it?
Yes. Write the quotation in ArmPOS and send the builder a PDF by email. When the builder accepts, the quote turns into a sale without retyping a line, and stock only drops at that moment.
How do I pay for ArmPOS from Burundi?
A paid plan goes on a bank card, and the bank sees a charge in US dollars, not in FBu. The pricing section converts each one into FBu at the day's rate, so you can estimate what the bank will take. Starter, the free plan, opens without a card: start there, and read on the plan cards which features each paid plan adds.
