From the rice sack to the kapoaka, in ariary

Point of Sale & Inventory Management Software in Madagascar

A Malagasy grocer buys rice by the sack and sells it by the kapoaka, while customers still quote prices in francs. With ArmPOS, point of sale software and inventory management keep both units right, and every sale is charged in ariary, from Antananarivo to Mahajanga.

Why ArmPOS

One system for sales, inventory and every branch

Most small businesses juggle a till, a stock book and a spreadsheet. ArmPOS brings your point of sale, inventory management, purchasing and accounting into one system, so every sale updates your stock and your numbers at once.

Every branch, one view

See stock in every shop and warehouse from one account, down to the rack. Move items between branches with approved transfers, and every movement is recorded.

Know before you run out

Set an alert quantity for each product. When stock falls to it, ArmPOS flags it in the notification bell and on the dashboard, branch by branch, so you reorder before a customer leaves empty-handed.

Speaks your team's language

Use ArmPOS in 24 languages, including English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Hindi and Chinese, with right-to-left screens for Arabic.

Profit you can see

Sales, profit and stock value update with every sale. Open the dashboard on any device and know how today is going, branch by branch.

Sell online too

Open your own online shop with the same products and stock. Online orders become sales in ArmPOS, so you never sell what you no longer have.

How ArmPOS works

From sign-up to daily profit

Create your free account and set up your shop in minutes. Import products, customers and suppliers from Excel, and give each person on your team their own login.

Pick rice by the kapoaka and type how many measures, scan a bar of soap, then take notes, a card or a transfer. The printed ticket shows the total in ariary.

Every sale, purchase, return and transfer updates your inventory. See what your stock is worth and what is running low in each branch.

Sales, profit, inventory and staff reports for any branch and any dates, ready to print or export to PDF and Excel.

Kapoaka, ariary and trucks on the RN2

Rice in Madagascar is still sold by the kapoaka, a 285 g measure scooped from the sack. Most of the country's imports land at Toamasina and climb the RN2 to the capital by truck. ArmPOS follows both ends of that chain, the kapoaka at the counter and the sack off the truck.

  • Notes first, cards in the capital

Notes are still the usual way to pay, and cards are spreading mostly in Antananarivo's shops. Each ticket names its payment method, from notes to a card on your own machine or a bank transfer. That machine runs apart from ArmPOS, which keeps only the cashier's choice. When a customer pays part in notes and part by transfer, the sale holds both, and the payments report adds them up separately.

  • Ariary on the receipt, never francs

At the market a price is often still spoken in Malagasy francs, a figure five times the ariary one. In your shop the receipt, the stock value and the margin all read in ariary, the shop's single currency. Look up a paid plan on the pricing section to see its ariary cost, which moves with the dollar from day to day.

  • Grocers, wholesalers and pharmacies

Near Analakely, a grocer scoops rice by the kapoaka from an open sack all day. In Toamasina, a wholesaler supplies neighbourhood shops and keeps a balance for each. A pharmacy in Fianarantsoa books every delivery in as a dated batch, and the till offers the batch that expires first.

  • Toamasina, the capital, Antsirabe

Under one account, the Toamasina depot, the Antananarivo shop and a branch in Antsirabe keep separate sellers and shelves. A truck climbing the RN2 carries a stock transfer, and nothing reaches the capital's count until a manager accepts it. Every evening, each branch's figures can be read alone.

Point of sale features

Everything you need at the counter: a fast POS screen on any device, flexible payments, and receipts your customers can keep.

  • Fast checkout

Search or scan products, apply discounts and promo codes, and complete a sale in seconds on a computer, tablet or phone.

  • Barcode scanning

Scan with a USB scanner, a phone or tablet camera, or weighing-scale labels that carry the weight in the barcode.

  • Split payments

Take cash, card and other methods in one sale, and record exactly how each customer paid.

  • Receipts and invoices

Print receipts on 58mm or 80mm thermal paper or A4, or send them by email or SMS. Turn quotations into sales and PDF invoices.

  • Held sales and returns

Park a sale and finish it later, and take returns at the till that put items straight back into stock.

  • Cash register

Open and close the register, record cash in and out, and see what the drawer should hold at the end of each shift.

  • Customers and loyalty

Keep customer records and balances, and reward repeat buyers with loyalty points they spend at the till.

  • Keeps selling offline

If the internet drops while you sell, ArmPOS keeps recording sales on the device and syncs them when you're back online.

Inventory management features

Know what you have, where it is and what it's worth, in every shop and warehouse. Your stock updates itself as you sell, buy, return and transfer.

  • Multi-branch inventory

Track stock in every shop and warehouse, down to the rack, from one account.

  • Stock transfers

Move stock between branches with transfers that need approval, so every item is accounted for.

  • Low stock alerts

Set an alert quantity per product, and the bell, the dashboard and the quantity alerts report show what to reorder in each branch.

  • Purchases and suppliers

Raise purchase orders, receive stock into the right warehouse and track what you owe each supplier.

  • Batches and expiry dates

Track batches with expiry dates and sell the earliest-expiring stock first, for pharmacies and food businesses.

  • Serial and IMEI numbers

Record serial or IMEI numbers for phones and electronics, and trace every unit from purchase to sale.

  • Variants and units

Sell in sizes and colours, by the pack or by the piece, with unit conversions handled for you.

  • Counts and adjustments

Download a count sheet by warehouse and category, then record adjustments and damages so your records match the shelf.

Run the whole business

Beyond the till: your online shop, your accounts, your team and the tools you already use, in the same system as your sales and stock.

  • Your online shop

Your own web shop with collections and banners. Customers pay by card or cash on delivery, and orders come from the same stock.

  • Accounting and profit

Expenses, cash and bank accounts, profit and loss, and a full accounting module with journals, a trial balance and a balance sheet.

  • About 60 reports

Sales, payments, tax, customers, suppliers, staff and inventory reports, including stock value, ageing and expiry, to print or export.

  • Staff and permissions

Give each person their own login and decide what they can see and do. Keep shifts, leave and attendance records too.

  • Integrations

Sync products, stock and orders with WooCommerce and Shopify, and send your sales to QuickBooks as invoices.

Send invoices and marketing campaigns by email, SMS and WhatsApp to bring customers back.

  • Hardware that fits

Works with USB barcode scanners, 58mm and 80mm receipt printers, label printers, a customer display and cash drawers through QZ Tray, or simply the phone you already have.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best POS system for a grocery that sells rice by the kapoaka?
You need one that sells by the kapoaka and still counts stock in sacks. In ArmPOS you set once, on the product, how many kapoaka a sack holds. Each measure sold then leaves stock, and at closing you know how many sacks remain in the store room.
Customers still talk in Malagasy francs. Can the receipt stop the confusion?
Yes. ArmPOS works in one currency per shop, the ariary, and every receipt prints its total in ariary. When a customer names a price in francs, turn the screen and show the ariary amount instead of dividing by five in your head. Nothing is converted at the counter, so the price you entered is the price charged.
Rice prices change from week to week. How do I keep every till up to date?
Edit the kapoaka's price on the product the morning your wholesaler raises his. Every till in every branch charges it from the next sale, with no price list to reprint. The stock value report then puts an ariary figure on the sacks waiting in your store room.
I am a wholesaler and grocers buy from me on credit. Can I cap what each one owes?
Yes. Give each grocer an account with a ceiling, and once a delivery on credit would push the balance over it, the till stops that sale. The balance climbs with every delivery and drops with every payment. A glance at the customers report tells you where each grocer stands before the next lorry is loaded.
When the RN2 is cut, how do I know what is still on the road?
Each order you place with a supplier becomes a purchase order in ArmPOS. It stays open until the truck arrives, so the list of open orders shows what is still between Toamasina and the capital. On arrival, receive it at the depot where the truck unloads, and what you owe that supplier is added to their record.
Some sacks arrive wet or torn. How do I take them out of stock?
Each wet sack goes in as a damage write-off, outside both sales and missing stock. At month end, count the store room on a downloaded count sheet, enter what you found, and confirm the adjustment.
Can I open branches in Antsirabe and Fianarantsoa while I stay in the capital?
Yes. Antsirabe and Fianarantsoa each get a branch with their own sellers and shelves, under your login. Sacks sent south from the capital wait on a transfer until a manager accepts it, and the dashboard compares the towns' sales side by side.
How do I pay for ArmPOS from Madagascar?
ArmPOS bills a paid plan to your card, and the amount is set in US dollars. Starter is free: the sign-up form never asks for a card. The plans on this page show what each covers and its ariary amount at today's rate.
